The UK Islamic Mission was established in August 1962, on the initiative of a small group of Muslims who felt the need for a British-based organisation which would convey the true spirit of Islam to the Western world.

The setting up of the UK Islamic Mission underlines the determination to meet this urgent need of the Muslims in the West. It was an effort both of moral training and social reorientation in the light of the Qur'an and Sunnah, the only way to real progress and salvation. The Mission's aims can be summed up as follows:· The propagation and projection of the true Islamic teachings implicitly identifying and exposing concepts and innovatory practices that are alien to the message of Islam.· Demonstrating to the nation's opinion-formers, academics,industrialists, financiers, etc that Islam is a timeless and relevant problem-solving way of life.· Providing a valued Islamic education to Muslim children living in the UK.

The Mission seeks to observe and establish Islam in its entirety and pristine purity, based on the teachings of the Holy Qur'an and Sunnah of the prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

In carrying out its work, the Mission has never operated on the principle of numbers. We are not a sort of organisation which is "signature organisation" concerned with quantity at the expense of quality. Rather, it is our aim, indeed, our ultimate concern to train believers for a lifelong struggle in the cause of Allah. Our workers must be prepared to work for the pleasure of Allah, the Creator and Master of the Universe.
